April 2019 Challenges
#12patternsplus2019: a monthly challenge to sew the same pattern as the rest of the community and reveal the garments on the same day. Join the Facebook group for more info. April’s pattern is the Athina Kakou Kimberly dress.
52 Week Sewing Challenge: a Facebook-only challenge with weekly themes. April’s are:
- mend something
- sew something from a paper pattern
- sew a bathing suit/undergarment
- sew a v neck
- sew your newest fabric
#100DaysProject: an annual event to encourage everyone to choose an action they can perform for 100 days. 2019 details haven’t yet been announced.
#MakeYourStash: 3-month challenge to use the older (possibly neglected) fabrics in your stash, with prizes from various sponsors. Follow @timetosew and @pilar_bear for sustainability-inspired prompts every Monday through June 2019.
#SewingAnimalApril: sew a garment using animal-themed fabric (either animal print or with animals on it) and use hashtags using the hashtags #sewinganimalapril and #sewingpatternsandprints and tag @voiceofacreative, @sewn_on_the_tyne, and @purplesewingcloud for prizes. Ends April 30.
#SewMyStyle2019: each month brings a new theme and potential sponsor prizes. April’s theme is trousers featuring Alina Sewing & Design Co Chi-town Chinos and Wardrobe by Me Hepburn Pants. Join the Facebook group for more info.
Shirt and Shirtdress Sewalong: a Facebook-only contest, there are very tight definitions of what constitutes a shirt or shirt dress. Submissions must be posted in the Facebook album. Join the Sew Alongs & Sewing Contests Facebook group to see full details. Ends April 30.

#30WearsChallenge: an ongoing prompt to make you think about the next thing you make. Will it receive 30 wears? Start anytime.
#BurdaChallenge2019: the fun continues in 2019, set your own goals for using Burda patterns and join all year.
#BurdaStylePlus: if you use a plus-size BurdaStyle pattern, use this new hashtag!
#LetsDiscuss2019: for the book bloggers, to engage in lively debates all year long
#MakeNine: a low-key year-long prompt to encourage the making of garments (sewing, knitting, crocheting, etc), using either this or #2019MakeNine. Join anytime.
#PoseLikeTheModel: born out of @annachristinasews feelings “about how ridiculous it is that I can’t find patterns with a realistic variety of models,” this draws attention to the very real lack of diversity on pattern models in terms of size, age, and skin color.
#UseNine2019: another year-long prompt to encourage you to use up 9 stash fabrics. Join anytime.
#ColourInThirds: sew a garment using @tessutifabrics‘s newest Japanese polyester crepe de chine currently 50% off and win a chance at cash and prizes. Note the spelling! Contest closes midnight AEST April 14 (time zone converter for non-Australians).
#SewBibs: post any bibs, dungarees, overalls, pinafores that you make between March 1 and April 12. Follow @terridodds1, @cookinandcraftin, @jessamyb, and @heidi_handmadefrenzy for giveaways. Ends April 12.
