June 2019 Challenges

52 Week Sewing Challenge: a Facebook-only challenge with weekly themes. June’s are:

  • sew something soft/warm
  • sew a rainbow
  • sew from your fabric stash
  • sew a pocket
  • sew something with stars or stripes

#12patternsplus2019: a monthly challenge to sew the same pattern as the rest of the community and reveal the garments on the same day. June’s theme of pants has 2 patterns from Rebecca Page including a 20% discount for the Posy Pleated Pants and the Slim Fit Cargos. Join the Facebook group for more info.

#FlashbackSewingChallenge: create a look inspired by your favorite time in history. Tag @faithstjules and @winmichele with the hashtag by June 24.

#HeyJuneJune: another challenge from the ladies behind #sewthistogether, details out now.

#HOCBreakTheRules: @houseofcurves hosts monthly challenges that break the “rules” of what curvy bodies “should” wear. June’s theme is fitted. Follow @sarcasticsewist for more details.

#JuneSewAlong: join @prettygirlssew and make McCall’s 7951. Post by July 5.

#MadeLikeMaisel: influenced by The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, create a 1950s-inspired outfit and tag @minimaedelcreates while using the hashtag. Runs through July 5.

#MAGAMSewalong: this is now an Instagram-only challenge. Tag @suestoney@sewing_in_spain, and @hportemanteau in your posts with the hashtag. June’s theme is Jiffy June.

#MakeYourStash: 3-month challenge to use the older (possibly neglected) fabrics in your stash, with prizes from various sponsors. Follow @timetosew and @pilar_bear for sustainability-inspired prompts every Monday through June 2019.

#OgdenIdaSwap2019: @jenlegg4 and @purplesewingcloud are back with their Ogden cami and Ida clutch swap. Sign-ups are open June 9-31, reveal on August 4.

#SewingChallenge2019: a monthly theme prompt. June’s theme is menswear. Join the Facebook group for more info.

#SewFreshSewClean13: a self-love-through-sewing challenge to make 1 garment a week for 13 weeks, run by @seweu and @sew_allainia. Runs April 7 through July 8. Tag them both and the hashtag!

#SewingGeometricJune: the June theme for #sewingpatternsandprints, tag @voiceofacreative, @sewn_on_the_tyne, and @purplesewingcloud for prizes.

#SewMyStyle2019: each month brings a new theme and potential sponsor prizes. June’s theme is woven dresses featuring Chalk & Notch Orchid Dress and Jennifer Lauren Handmade Quincy Dress. Join the Facebook group for more info.

#SewTogetherForSummer: this year’s theme is jumpsuits! But there’s a wide interpretation of that, from overalls to rompers. #SewYourView: a monthly sewalong, for June the pattern is Vogue 9357. Pick your view and follow this month’s host @sew_amazingleigh for inspiration.

#UFOSewAlong: a Facebook-only contest, this month’s theme is to get rid of any UFOs (unfinished objects or project that has not been worked on for two weeks). Submissions must be posted in the Facebook album. Join the Sew Alongs & Sewing Contests Facebook group to see full details. Ends June 30.

#MakeNine: a low-key year-long prompt to encourage the making of garments (sewing, knitting, crocheting, etc), using either this or #2019MakeNine. Join anytime.

#OldMakesNewWays: started by @pinkcoatclub encourages makers to show off older handmade garments.

#PoseLikeTheModel: born out of @annachristinasews feelings “about how ridiculous it is that I can’t find patterns with a realistic variety of models,” this draws attention to the very real lack of diversity on pattern models in terms of size, age, and skin color.
