Bienvenidos Makers! Welcome to the monthly challenges list.

The continually updated master list of all the maker challenges is always up in the menu bar. But if you want the list for just July’s challenges, here you go! This also includes challenges that are ongoing (recently updated!!) and those ending this month that may have started earlier in the year.

July Maker Challenges

#12patternsplus2019: a monthly challenge to sew the same pattern as the rest of the community and reveal the garments on the same day. Join the Facebook group for more info. July’s patterns are the Amy and Bonita from Style Arc.

#30DaysOfDresses: join @thestitchsistersuk in wearing dresses every day in July.

52 Week Sewing Challenge: a Facebook-only challenge with weekly themes. July’s are:

  • Sew a UFO (unfinished object)
  • Sew your ugliest fabric
  • Sew a free pattern
  • Sew something with woven fabric

#100ActsOfSewingJuly19: make patterns from 100 Acts of Sewing and post them to Instagram with the hashtag and tag @beyond_measure_uk. Weekly prizes. Runs through 9 am GMT July 30.

#ActiveSA: a Facebook-only contest, this month’s theme is to make clothes to move in. Submissions must be posted in the Facebook album. Join the Sew Alongs & Sewing Contests Facebook group to see full details. Ends July 31.

#BTRSwim: House of Curves own Amanda Savoie will be featuring swimsuits through July. Follow along with her @cut.sew.make.

#CAUpcyclingChallenge2019: hosted by @candiceayala with strict rules for participating. Runs through 6:59 p.m. PST on July 31st, 2019.

#FashionFeelsFabulous: take a selfie in clothes that illustrate how you feel and follow/tag @thestitchedit,@victorialucilleanne and @untitledthoughts. See full rules here. Runs through July 31 with winners chosen each week.

#HaveLegsWillWearShorts: inspired by @chrichrimano and hosted by @makermountainfabrics to encourage everyone to wear shorts! Prizes include $25 Maker Mountain Fabrics shop credit. Runs for four weeks starting July 1.

#MadeLikeMaisel: influenced by The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, create a 1950s-inspired outfit and tag @minimaedelcreates while using the hashtag. Runs through July 5.

#MAGAMSewalong: now an Instagram-only challenge. Tag @suestoney@sewing_in_spain, and @hportemanteau in your posts with the hashtag. July’s theme is Jazzy July.

#OutfitAlong2019: combining knitting and sewing challenges,  @lladybird and @untangling.knots are hosting this on both Instagram and Ravelry. Check out the blog post for more info. Runs June 1 through July 31.

#PatternSwap19: hosted by @the.polka.dot.palace and @thezipperfoot, put a pattern up for swapping, chose from another, then make up your new pattern! Runs through July 13th.

#ScarfRefashion: a community challenge by @sewdalriada and @suestoney to save scarves, shawls, and tablecloths from wasting away. Try to incorporate other hashtag challenges along with it! Runs through July 31.

#SewATop: for sewing YouTubers, a challenge to sew a top (any pattern) and upload it by August 31 with the title Sew a Top Challenge.

#SewCargo: join 2 bloggers for “a little challenge among friends” in making Simplicity pattern 5102. Weekly themes through July.

#SewcialistsMiniChallenge: running July 10-14 only, follow @sewcialists for updates.

#SewFreshSewClean13: a self-love-through-sewing challenge to make 1 garment a week for 13 weeks, run by @seweu and @sew_allainia. Runs April 7 through July 8. Tag them both and the hashtag!

#SewingChallenge2019: a monthly theme prompt. July’s theme is silk. Join the Facebook group for more info.

#SewJapaneseInJuly: the counterpart to January’s event hosted by @bloglessanna and @craftyjane_makes, encouraging the use of Japanese patterns, books, fabric, etc. Runs through July.

#SewingJuicyJuly: sew a garment using fruit-themed fabric and use hashtags using the hashtags #sewingjuicyjuly and #sewingpatternsandprints and tag @voiceofacreative, @sewn_on_the_tyne, and @purplesewingcloud for prizes. Ends July 31.

#SewMyStyle2019: each month brings a new theme and sponsor prizes. July’s theme is jeans! This month there are 5 options to choose from for both men and women: Megan Nielsen modern cut Ash or high-waisted Dawn, Cashmerette Ames, and Thread Theory classic straight leg Fulford or slightly tapered Quadra. Join the Facebook group for more info.

#SewOver50: a monthly Instagram sewing challenge for the over-50 crowd who follow @sewover50. In July, use #So50Vintage to showcase vintage sewing. Ends July 31.

#SewYourView: a monthly sewalong, for July the pattern is Simplicity 8375. Pick your view and follow this month’s host @createandpray for inspiration.

#30WearsChallenge: an ongoing prompt to make you think about the next thing you make. Will it receive 30 wears? Start anytime.

#31x31Challenge: a twist on the popular 10×10 capsule wardrobe exercises.  Join in anytime.

#BurdaChallenge2019: the fun continues in 2019, set your own goals for using Burda patterns and join all year.

#BurdaStylePlus: if you use a plus-size BurdaStyle pattern, use this new hashtag!

#DressLikeaCrayon: a twist on monochromatic outfits, this idea from @whatkatiesews is to wear the same color from head to toe

#FinishThoseDamnWIPs: a hashtag to encourage you to finish your works in progress, begun by @sleepless_in_bavaria and @hilsyb

#HandmadeHappyDance: started by @amynicolestudio to encourage makers to don their favorite handmade garment while dancing to their favorite song. Join on Instagram anytime.

#LetsDiscuss2019: for the book bloggers, to engage in lively debates all year long

#MakeNine: a low-key year-long prompt to encourage the making of garments (sewing, knitting, crocheting, etc), using either this or #2019MakeNine. Join anytime.

#MySewingStartedHere: join @sewcialists and show Instagram where your sewing started. No one starts an expert!

#OldMakesNewWays: started by @pinkcoatclub encourages makers to show off older handmade garments.

#PoseLikeTheModel: born out of @annachristinasews feelings “about how ridiculous it is that I can’t find patterns with a realistic variety of models,” this draws attention to the very real lack of diversity on pattern models in terms of size, age, and skin color.

#ProjectFabricFast: join @heatherandthepugs in a fabric (or other craft supplies) buying ban. Use this and #seasonofthestash to follow along with her.

#SeasonOfTheRuffle: join @gilliancrafts in celebrating ruffles on your handmade clothes
