The continually updated master list of all the maker challenges is always up in the menu bar. But if you want the list for just August’s challenges, here you go! This also includes challenges that are ongoing and those ending this month that may have started earlier in the year.


52 Week Sewing Challenge: a Facebook-only challenge with weekly themes. August’s are:

  • Sew a Hood
  • Sew Something by Hand
  • Sew Something with Interfacing
  • Sew Something with FOE or Bias Tape
  • Sew Something Teal

#AlterItAugust: is a sewing challenge to examine your wardrobe and bring life and love to unworn garments. Use the hashtag and tag @sewnorth. Prizes awarded every Sunday. More info here. Runs through August.

#BRAugust2019: get into the bra-making spirit with a photo-a-day challenge hosted by @tailormade. Runs through August.

#ILoveMyFabricParty: happening on Instagram over the weekend of August 10-11, follow along with @sewdiy‘s virtual fabric party. More details and tips on her blog.

#MisusuSewingChallenge: 3 challenges in one featuring free patterns from Misusu Patterns. Check out this post for more info on the FREEkin’ Sewing Challenge 2019. Runs through August 31.

#OutfitOppositesSA: a Facebook-only contest, this month’s theme is to create two outfits that express opposite ideas. Submissions must be posted in the Facebook album. Join the Sew Alongs & Sewing Contests Facebook group to see full details. Ends August 31.

#SewcialMashup: hosted by @insidethehem and @girlsinthegarden to “create a unique garment by combining two patterns.” Runs through August 31.

#SewingAbstractAugust: the August theme for #sewingpatternsandprints, tag @voiceofacreative, @sewn_on_the_tyne, and @purplesewingcloud for prizes.

#SewingChallenge2019: a monthly theme prompt. August’s theme is lingerie. Join the Facebook group for more info.

#SewFrugal19: hosted by @thecamdenstitch to sew a garment as frugally as possible. See this post for full details. Runs until September 28th.

#SewMyStyle2019: each month brings a new theme and potential sponsor prizes. August’s theme is lingerie featuring the Emerald Erin Jordy Bralette, Greenstyle Creations Power Sports Bra, or choose your own! Join the Facebook group for more info.

#SewOverUnder: the theme for The Sewcialists blog is anything you’d wear under or over your clothes. Check out their site for more info. Runs through August.

#OldMakesNewWays: started by @pinkcoatclub encourages makers to show off older handmade garments.

#ProjectFabricFast: join @heatherandthepugs in a fabric (or other craft supplies) buying ban. Use this and #seasonofthestash to follow along with her.

#PoseLikeTheModel: born out of @annachristinasews feelings “about how ridiculous it is that I can’t find patterns with a realistic variety of models,” this draws attention to the very real lack of diversity on pattern models in terms of size, age, and skin color.
