September 2019 Maker Challenges

The continually updated master list of all the maker challenges is always up in the menu bar. But if you want the list for just September 2019 maker challenges, here you go! This also includes challenges that are ongoing (recently updated!!) and those ending this month that may have started earlier in the year.

#12patternsplus2019: a monthly challenge to sew the same pattern as the rest of the community and reveal the garments on the same day. Join the Facebook group for more info. September’s patterns are the Rhapsody Blouse and Laundry Day Tee from Love Notions.

52 Week Sewing Challenge: a Facebook-only challenge with weekly themes. September’s are:

  • Sew A Zipper
  • Sew a Men’s Pattern
  • Sew Something with Pleats or Gathers
  • Sew Something Pink

#MAGAMSewalong: now an Instagram-only challenge. Tag @suestoney@sewing_in_spain, and @hportemanteau in your posts with the hashtag. September’s theme is Scrappy September.

#SewingChallenge2019: a monthly theme prompt. September’s theme is jacket/blazer. Join the Facebook group for more info.

#SewEveryDaySeptember: a daily prompt-based challenge from @sewisfaction “designed to encourage, inspire and motivate you to get sewing or do something sewing related every day.” Runs through September 30th.

#SewFrugal19: hosted by @thecamdenstitch to sew a garment as frugally as possible. See this post for full details. Runs until September 28th.

#SewingStripySeptember: the September theme for #sewingpatternsandprints, tag @voiceofacreative, @sewn_on_the_tyne, and @purplesewingcloud for prizes.

#SewMansPants: makes pants (not undergarments!) for a male in September. See this blog post for complete details. Ends September 30th.

#SewMyStyle2019: each month brings a new theme and potential sponsor prizes. September’s theme is blouses featuring the Hey June Handmade Phoenix and Love Notions Rhapsody! Join the Facebook group for more info.

#SewSaySeptember: a daily quote-based inspiration from @elizabethmadethis all September long. Participate by following the prompts.

#Sewtember2019: celebrate National Sewing Month with @akramsideas and a group of vloggers hosting sewalongs for free patterns on their YouTube channels. Share your makes from the featured patterns for a chance to win prizes throughout September.

#SewYourView: a monthly sewalong, for September the pattern is Vogue 1643. Pick your view and post before the end of the month! Follow @sewyourview for inspiration and details.

#SewYourselfSustainable: hosted by @newcrafthouse, a daily Instagram prompt with prizes! Runs through September 30th.

#SlowProjectChallenge: a “challenge that focuses on taking our time with a project” hosted by @chronicallysewn. Runs until September 30th.

StoryADay September: sign up for daily prompts to write a story a day throughout the month of September.

The Sketchbook Project: attention artists! Order a sketchbook, fill it in with sketches, and return it to the Brooklyn Art Library to join a global art project and leave a legacy! More info here. Buy the sketchbook by November 1, return it by February 1, 2020.

#MakeNine: a low-key year-long prompt to encourage the making of garments (sewing, knitting, crocheting, etc), using either this or #2019MakeNine. Join anytime.

#MySewingStartedHere: join @sewcialists and show Instagram where your sewing started. No one starts an expert!

#OldMakesNewWays: started by @pinkcoatclub encourages makers to show off older handmade garments.

#ProjectFabricFast: join @heatherandthepugs in a fabric (or other craft supplies) buying ban. Use this and #seasonofthestash to follow along with her.

#PoseLikeTheModel: born out of @annachristinasews feelings “about how ridiculous it is that I can’t find patterns with a realistic variety of models,” this draws attention to the very real lack of diversity on pattern models in terms of size, age, and skin color.
