Guten Tag makers! Welcome to the list of October 2019 maker challenges.

The continually updated master list of all the maker challenges is always up in the menu bar. But if you want the list for just October 2019 maker challenges, here you go! This also includes challenges that are ongoing (recently updated!!) and those ending this month that may have started earlier in the year.

52 Week Sewing Challenge: a Facebook-only challenge with weekly themes. October’s are:

  • Sew a Costume
  • Second Chance Week
  • Sew Something with Snaps or Grommets
  • Sew Something for the Home

#BustOutABolero: this is a 2-week challenge hosted by @makethislook to sew or knit a bolero jacket to be revealed on October 15th.

#FallForCostume: daily inspiration prompts for the community of costume makers, admirers, and enthusiasts hosted by @redthreaded. Use the prompts for your daily posting inspirations. Through October 31st.

#InkTober2019: a daily prompt for the drawing artists! Follow @jakeparker for the official prompt list. Runs through October 31st.

#MAGAMSewalong: this is now an Instagram-only challenge. Tag @suestoney@sewing_in_spain, and @hportemanteau in your posts with the hashtag. October’s theme is October Outdoors.

#PGSSewAlong: follow @prettygirlssew and make a wardrobe essential, the True Bias Ogden Cami. Post by November 5th.

Sewera Fashion Catwalk Competition: film a video of yourself strutting your stuff in a Sewera pattern then upload it to their Facebook page for a chance to win a prize. More details on their Facebook event post. Uploads must be made by October 31.

#SewingChallenge2019: a monthly theme prompt. October’s theme is evening wear. Join the Facebook group for more info.

#SewMyStyle2019: each month brings a new theme and potential sponsor prizes. October’s theme is denim jackets featuring the Rebecca Page Kingston and Style Arc Stevie! Join the Facebook group for more info.

#SewingOptimisticOctober: the October theme for #sewingpatternsandprints, tag @voiceofacreative, @sewn_on_the_tyne, and @purplesewingcloud for prizes.

#SewYourFear: what are you afraid of sewing? Make it this October just for fun and tag @heritageninja and @mrs.f_72 and post it with the hashtag by October 31st.

#SewYourView: a monthly sewalong, for October the patterns are Onella Blouse and Nasrin Pants free from Mood Sewciety. Pick your view and post before the end of the month! Follow @sewyourview and guest host @shavonne_cruz for inspiration and details.

#SpicySewingSAL: a Facebook-only contest, this month’s theme is to make one garment that steps outside your comfort zone with color or fabric. Submissions must be posted in the Facebook album. Join the Sew Alongs & Sewing Contests Facebook group to see full details. Ends October 31.

#SwapSewShare: check out @loopymabels_closet and @rosysewsmodernvintage vlogs to swap sewing notions with a sewing friend. Follow along with the hashtag.

#TartanOrTweed: pick one of the two fabrics strongly associated with Scotland (tartan or tweed) and tag @sew_scottish for fun. Runs until November 30th.

#HandmadeHappyDance: started by @amynicolestudio to encourage makers to don their favorite handmade garment while dancing to their favorite song. Join on Instagram anytime.

#LetsDiscuss2019: for the book bloggers, to engage in lively debates all year long

#MakeNine: a low-key year-long prompt to encourage the making of garments (sewing, knitting, crocheting, etc), using either this or #2019MakeNine. Join anytime.

#MySewingStartedHere: join @sewcialists and show Instagram where your sewing started. No one starts an expert!

#OldMakesNewWays: started by @pinkcoatclub encourages makers to show off older handmade garments.

#ProjectFabricFast: join @heatherandthepugs in a fabric (or other craft supplies) buying ban. Use this and #seasonofthestash to follow along with her.

#PoseLikeTheModel: born out of @annachristinasews feelings “about how ridiculous it is that I can’t find patterns with a realistic variety of models,” this draws attention to the very real lack of diversity on pattern models in terms of size, age, and skin color.
