Kia ora makers! Welcome to the list of December 2019 maker challenges.

The continually updated master list of all the maker challenges is always up in the menu bar—which now includes some upcoming challenges for 2020. But if you want the list for just December 2019 maker challenges, here you go! This also includes challenges that are ongoing and those ending this month that may have started earlier in the year.

December 2019

52 Week Sewing Challenge: a Facebook-only challenge with weekly themes. December’s are:

  • Sew a Gift
  • 1 Hour or Less Project
  • Sew Something from a newly purchased Pattern
  • Sew Something for Yourself
  • Sew Something with Batting

#DesignInDecember: follow @nicedressthanksimadeit to look for inspiration from a designer and post your own version side-by-side. Do it on your blog, Instagram, Twitter, or a few other ways. Check out the blog post for more information and prizes! Runs until December 31.

#DressMakerOfTheYear: sponsored by Sew Magazine with prizes in 6 different categories. Follow @sewhq for inspiration. Voting ends on May 7.

#GetYourSewingWishesGranted and #GetYourSewingWishesGranted2019: repost this image from @bkroupa with your sewing-related gift list and see who else’s wish you might be able to grant. Seems to run through the end of December (end date unclear).

#MAGAMSewalong: this is now an Instagram-only challenge. Tag @suestoney@sewing_in_spain, and @hportemanteau in your posts with the hashtag. December’s theme is Daring December.

#MeetTheMakerWeek: a complement to March’s month long challenge, this one-week prompt-based challenge allows makers to promote their businesses and gain a new audience in time for the holidays. Follow @joannehawker for more details. Runs December 2-7.

#MyProudestMake: join @cocowawacrafts for a casual challenge to show off your favorite handmade item. It can be sewn, knitted, or any craft. Ends December 31.

#SewingChallenge2019: a monthly theme prompt. December’s theme is upcycle. Join the Facebook group for more info.

#SewingDottyDecember: the December theme for #sewingpatternsandprints, tag @voiceofacreative, @sewn_on_the_tyne, and @purplesewingcloud for prizes.

#SewingTop5: join the @sewcialists for their annual recap of their Top 5 Hits, Misses, Highlights, Reflections, and Goals. Runs through January 2020.

#FinishThoseDamnWIPs: a hashtag to encourage you to finish your works in progress, begun by @sleepless_in_bavaria and @hilsyb

#HandmadeHappyDance: started by @amynicolestudio to encourage makers to don their favorite handmade garment while dancing to their favorite song. Join on Instagram anytime.

#KnowYourSewists: started by @angelica_creates as a way to get to know other sewists in the Instagram community outside of sewing. Post a photo of yourself and caption it with 3-5 non-sewing facts about you, then tag 3 friends. Participate at any time!

#LetsDiscuss2019: for the book bloggers, to engage in lively debates all year long

#MakeNine: a low-key year-long prompt to encourage the making of garments (sewing, knitting, crocheting, etc), using either this or #2019MakeNine. Join anytime.

#MySewingStartedHere: join @sewcialists and show Instagram where your sewing started. No one starts an expert!

#OldMakesNewWays: started by @pinkcoatclub encourages makers to show off older handmade garments.

#ProjectFabricFast: join @heatherandthepugs in a fabric (or other craft supplies) buying ban. Use this and #seasonofthestash to follow along with her.

#PoseLikeTheModel: born out of @annachristinasews feelings “about how ridiculous it is that I can’t find patterns with a realistic variety of models,” this draws attention to the very real lack of diversity on pattern models in terms of size, age, and skin color.

#SeasonOfTheRuffle: join @gilliancrafts in celebrating ruffles on your handmade clothes

#SewBreastFeeding: for showing off breastfeeding-friendly outfits.
