Kia ora makers! Welcome to the list of December 2019 maker challenges.
The continually updated master list of all the maker challenges is always up in the menu bar—which now includes some upcoming challenges for 2020. But if you want the list for just December 2019 maker challenges, here you go! This also includes challenges that are ongoing and those ending this month that may have started earlier in the year.
52 Week Sewing Challenge: a Facebook-only challenge with weekly themes. December’s are:
- Sew a Gift
- 1 Hour or Less Project
- Sew Something from a newly purchased Pattern
- Sew Something for Yourself
- Sew Something with Batting
#DesignInDecember: follow @nicedressthanksimadeit to look for inspiration from a designer and post your own version side-by-side. Do it on your blog, Instagram, Twitter, or a few other ways. Check out the blog post for more information and prizes! Runs until December 31.
#GetYourSewingWishesGranted and #GetYourSewingWishesGranted2019: repost this image from @bkroupa with your sewing-related gift list and see who else’s wish you might be able to grant. Seems to run through the end of December (end date unclear).
#MeetTheMakerWeek: a complement to March’s month long challenge, this one-week prompt-based challenge allows makers to promote their businesses and gain a new audience in time for the holidays. Follow @joannehawker for more details. Runs December 2-7.
#SewMyStyle2019: each month brings a new theme and potential sponsor prizes. December’s theme is pajamas featuring the Closet Case Patterns Carolyn and Sew to Grow Night Garden Set! Join the Facebook group for more info.
#SewFamilyJammies: join @sewalteredstyle and sponsor @makermountainfabrics to end the year with pajama-making. Sign up on SAS’s website before Black Friday and get those PJs made by New Year’s Day! Ends January 1, 2020.
#30DaysofCreativePractice: artist Wendy BrightBill’s free 30-day course to enhance your creativity. Join anytime.
#30WearsChallenge: an ongoing prompt to make you think about the next thing you make. Will it receive 30 wears? Start anytime.
#BurdaChallenge2019: the fun continues in 2019, set your own goals for using Burda patterns and join all year.
#BurdaStylePlus: if you use a plus-size BurdaStyle pattern, use this new hashtag!
#KnowYourSewists: started by @angelica_creates as a way to get to know other sewists in the Instagram community outside of sewing. Post a photo of yourself and caption it with 3-5 non-sewing facts about you, then tag 3 friends. Participate at any time!
#LetsDiscuss2019: for the book bloggers, to engage in lively debates all year long
#MakeNine: a low-key year-long prompt to encourage the making of garments (sewing, knitting, crocheting, etc), using either this or #2019MakeNine. Join anytime.
#MySewingStartedHere: join @sewcialists and show Instagram where your sewing started. No one starts an expert!
#PoseLikeTheModel: born out of @annachristinasews feelings “about how ridiculous it is that I can’t find patterns with a realistic variety of models,” this draws attention to the very real lack of diversity on pattern models in terms of size, age, and skin color.
#SewBreastFeeding: for showing off breastfeeding-friendly outfits.
#SewingInRealLife: created by @workroomsocial as a way to show sewing in real life instead of the “beautifully manicured Instagrammer.” Join in anytime!
#UseNine2019: another year-long prompt to encourage you to use up 9 stash fabrics. Join anytime.
